Rules

  1. Pre-Registration: we encourage you to register for the event online at BikeReg . You can also register the day of the event (the registration fee for all rides increases by $10 and you will have to pay the Vehicle Entry Fee to enter Look Memorial Park).
  2. Event day: participants will check in at the registration table at the Dow Pavilion at Look Memorial Park, 300 N. Main Street in Florence. Check-in time for the 45-mile Long Ride is 9:00 am to 10:00 am, with an official start time of 10:00 am. The check-in time for the 25-mile Ride is 10:30 am, with an official start time of 11:30 am. The check-in time for the 10-mile Family Ride is from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, with an official start time of 12:00 pm. You are not required to start at the start time for any ride. Each participant will receive a poker score sheet and then draw the first two cards. The 45-mile rider will receive one card at the rest stop at the half-way point. The 10-mile rider will receive one card at Vet’s Field. The 25-mile rider will receive 1 card at the rest stop at the halfway point. When the rider arrives at each location, he/she will draw a card and then the volunteer will mark the card drawn on the rider’s poker score sheet and stamp the card. The first and last stops for all routes is the Dow Pavilion at Look Memorial Park.
  3. Riders need not follow the suggested route or the suggested order except that the first and last cards must be drawn at the beginning and end of the event.
  4. Each rider is responsible to maintain his or her scorecard during the event. Scorecards that are damaged or illegible will not qualify for the prizes. The last cards will be drawn at the end of the event at the Dow Pavilion at Look Memorial Park. Each rider will be permitted to “discard” a selection and draw one additional card for an additional donation of $5.00.
  5. If a rider draws a card he or she has already drawn, the card must be returned to the deck and the rider shall draw a new card. This is because poker hand rankings are based on the likelihood of each “hand” occurring and if duplicate cards are allowed, the probabilities for a given hand are altered. Another way of thinking of this is that even though participants go to multiple locations to obtain their cards, they must be limited to drawing from a single 52 card deck just as if they were playing at a single location.
  6. Participants must return to the the Dow Pavilion at Look Memorial Park no later than 2:00 p.m. with their poker score sheets so that the results may be tallied.
  7. The winners of the event will be selected on the basis of the best poker hand as follows:
  • Royal Straight Flush: Five sequential cards from 10 to an Ace all in the same suit.
  • Straight Flush: Five sequential cards in the same suit.
  • Four of A Kind: Four cards of the same rank (eg. Four Kings).
  • Full House: Three cards of the same rank plus a pair.
  • Flush: Five cards all in the same suit but not sequential.
  • Straight: Five sequential cards.
  • Three of a kind: Three cards of the same rank (eg. Three Kings)
  • Two Pair: two sets of two cards of the same rank.
  • Pair: two cards of the same rank. Ace is high for all hands.

There are no jokers or wild cards for this event.

  1. In the event of tying hands, the participants will each be dealt an additional card. The high card wins the highest prize and the runner-up will receive the next highest prize.
  2. The event is not a race and is open to those who want to use other modes of transportation. If you are riding, please do so safely and responsibly and obey all traffic rules. Bikers ride on the same side of the street as automobile traffic and should use appropriate hand signals to indicate stopping and turning. All riders are required to wear helmets.
  3. Announcement of winners will occur once the poker card score sheets are tallied.
  4. Valley Community Development assumes no responsibility for injuries or damage sustained during the event.
  5. No employee of Valley Community Development or his or her immediate family members, nor any board members and their immediate family members are eligible to win. All net proceeds of the event will be used for Valley Community Development’s charitable purposes.
